I am a lost poet. A number of years ago I moved across The Pond in pursuit of better opportunities. After being embedded in the new culture for a significant period, maybe the grass isn’t always greener, just a different species.

After several false starts and dead ends, I’ve decided to finally leave a footprint in the digital sands of the Internets. Why? I have a lot of thoughts and daydreams rattling around in my mind, and I’ve reached a point in my life where I’ve come to appreciate more the non-materialistic aspects of humanity. I’m a big believer in leaving something in a better condition than found. This may just be a simple blog, a grain of sand in an electronic desert of one and zeros, but if one person finds something here, then an impact was made. Maybe it will just be a form of therapy, maybe it will become something more than its parts. Let’s see. For the time being I’m happy to peregrinate around my thoughts and see where I end up.

I don’t do small talk, I despise it. If someone starts talking about the weather, or the traffic, I regard it as a verbal commercial break. It’s a big turn off. I don’t shy away from the big questions, and I enjoy picking at peoples’ brains and asking the controversial questions. If everyone shied away from controversy, no one would ever be able to understand different viewpoints. There are enough opinionated myopic views throughout the world, people need to be more prepared to break through those walls.

What is this blog about? Anything, everything, and nothing. I plan to publish musings, thoughts, short stories and general observations on life. I won’t include anything personal, all names will be changed and there will be nothing political. Think of this as overhearing a conversation in a quiet coffee shop, or glancing at an open journal page.

There’s a famous, cliched quote; “A journey of a thousand miles, begins with a single step”. This is from an ancient Chinese proverb included within the Doa De Jing. Whilst I don’t disagree, I think it can be taken further, “All journeys begin with a single thought”. No one just gets up and starts on something, there is an initial thought, idea, inspiration, that is the genesis of future actions. Imagine if every thought led to a defined destination. Maybe they do, it’s just the destinations are so subtle, or tightly coupled with everyday life, we don’t notice.

Welcome to my mind palace: an old Victorian library, with gas lamps and a heavy, comforting atmosphere filled with biblichor. Bring a coffee, find a comfy chair, or slowly roam through the halls. Let’s explore and see what can be learnt, discovered and shared.

I fell into the pit again today. The dark, vile, oppressive pit. Its walls are slick, the bottom is nothing but sticky mud that clings to you like tar. The air is thick and hot; if it wasn't so sou
